Clinch River Cleanup set for July 22

07/22/2017 @ 8:00 am - 2:00 pm

The cleanup event will begin at 8 a.m. with breakfast at the Museum of Appalachia, 2819 Andersonville Highway, Norris. And, it will end about 2 p.m.

Anyone who enjoys the Clinch River, from anglers to kayakers and wildlife watchers, is welcome to join the effort to help remove litter from the Clinch River and its banks. Volunteers will be needed to:

• Wear waders and patrol for litter in shallow water;

• Use their kayaks and canoes to clean shorelines and shallow water where there is no public access available by road; and

• Use their powerboats to help halt tires and other items from deeper waters.

Volunteer emergency medical personnel, ham radio operators, tire disposal professionals and workers with trucks, who will collect and dispose of filled trash bags, will support the Big Clinch River Cleanup volunteers in their efforts.

This year, the first 100 volunteers to register will qualify for a free full breakfast at the Museum of Appalachia (expenses of the meal are supported by a grant from the Tennessee Valley Authority).
