There are some materials that local drop-off centers will not accept and some they may only accept certain amounts. If you need anything taken off and aren’t sure whether it is accepted please contact your local center or contact the Solid Waste Department at (865) 463-6845. Additional Ways to dispose of those pesky items

Many electronics manufacturers and retailers have “take back” programs, so the next time you are in the market for a new computer, or electronic device, check with your retailer, or hop online to see if the brand you are interested in has a program in place. You might even get a discount on your new purchase.

Appliances, and car batteries, you say! Your local scrap metal dealer will pay you for those, and most anything else with any metal in it! Call and check with them for details.

If you have made the switch to compact fluorescent bulbs and you shop at The Home Depot, you can take your old bulbs back with you when you go to replace them. Check with The Home Depot for details.

Do-it-yourselfers can take their used oil back to the auto parts store where they purchased the oil. For a list of locations near you that accept used oil and other auto fluids, you can check Earth 911.
