The Erase Your Trace event and Earth Day Festival was held April 22, 2017, in Oak Ridge.
Keep Anderson County Beautiful and the Anderson County Solid Waste Department reported that families in 125 vehicles dropped off recyclable material during a four-hour, drive-through recycle event. At that event, volunteers collected 326 pounds of shredded paper, 800 pounds of books, 5 cubic yards of eCycle materials. Anderson County Solid Waste took 595 pounds of Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) televisions plus 1 pound of Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulbs and 4 pounds of rechargeable batteries. The volunteers also collected 26 pairs of eyeglasses to go to the local Lions Club and 1 cubic yard of soft goods for the animal shelter.
Although the rain that day seemed to keep a lot of people away from the Earth Day Festival, Keep Anderson County Beautiful volunteers gave away 26 litter grabbers, 20 reusable grocery bags, and numerous car litter bags.
