County collects 2.5 tons at Household Hazardous Waste event

Records provided by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation show just more than 5,000 pounds, or 2.5 tons, of material was collected during the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event held Sept. 17, 2016, in Oak Ridge.

Information from the State shows that citizens from 181 households dropped off household hazardous waste material during the collection event. They dropped off a variety of items, including flammable liquids, corrosive material, aerosol containers, pesticides, oil-based paint, and fluorescent light tubes.

The event was conducted by the Anderson County Solid Waste Department in conjunction with TDEC. Anderson County Solid Waste appreciates TDEC officials and their assistance with providing the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program each year.
